There is a death of trained professionals to treat and manage people with various disabilities, in Pakistan. The need to develop a pool of such professionals was on the CHEF International’s agenda, since years.

A meeting at the national level to this effect, sponsored by CHEF International was held on November 25 2007, which was attended by all stakeholders including representatives of Provincial government and NGOs both national and International, working in the field of cross-disability.

After detailed discussions, input by the stakeholders and thorough deliberations, it was unanimously agreed to establish an institute with a defined purpose to develop human resource to treat and manage the special needs of disables at district level.

Apropos to this Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) was established with the collaboration of CHEF International and CBM. Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, then Chairman Higher Education Commission, inaugurated this institute on October 18 2012, at Islamabad Campus of Isra University.
